The UK’s largest arts centre, Southbank Centre was founded with the Festival of Britain in 1951. It’s a place where people experience world-class art, music and culture that stimulates, inspires, educates and amazes. Their festival programme encompasses classical and contemporary music, art, theatre literature, dance and debate. It reaches 6.25 million people a year, and encompasses over 5,000 events featuring world-class artists from across the globe.
Southbank Centre sits in London’s most vibrant cultural quarter (and Europe’s largest arts campus) on the southern bank of the Thames.
After appointing a new Chief Executive and Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) last year, Southbank Centre was looking to appoint a Finance Director. This would be a critical appointment during a really exciting time for the Southbank Centre.
We were tasked with sourcing a very experienced candidate from within the sector. This was crucial as both the CCO and CEO were non-sector appointments.
The Finance Director would directly impact the organisational commercial growth, create a new 3 year strategic plan and deliver on major capital projects. The role was executive and Trustee facing and would play a key role in developing a new strategic vision for Southbank Centre.
Our sector experience and extensive networking would be a key element the recruitment process as we proactively targeted Finance Directors and COOs from within Arts and Not-For-Profit.
Coming from an Arts organisation the appointed incumbent started in June 2018 and is off to a flying start.
