Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has a main focus of the treatment and care of NHS patients with a wide range of eye problems, from common complaints to rare conditions which require treatments not available anywhere else in the UK. In 2016/17 Moorfields achieved turnover of about £222 million, saw 586,917 outpatients, dealt with 102,564 A&E attendances and admitted 39,870 inpatients.
The role of Chief Finance Officer at Moorfields is an incredibly sought after position given its renowned culture and its profile as one of the NHS’s leading specialist hospitals and the global leader in ophthalmology.
The candidate would be joining the Trust at an important time as they continue implementing their vision of excellence 2017-2022 – an ambitious five-year strategy of improvement to discover, develop and deliver the best possible care for their patients.
Moorfields was looking for an astute, driven, flexible and determined individual who can meet the challenge and was committed to driving forward their ambitious agenda and delivering their purpose of working together to discover, develop and deliver the best eye care. They required a team player to join an excellent board and a collaborative and focused executive, and approached Allen Lane due to the track record that we have built up recruiting VSM finance professionals in recent years – more than any other organisation.
We used a highly targeted approach to run an executive search campaign. We focused our attention on attracting individuals within the NHS, Deputies at larger Trusts were also considered, whilst existing experience leading on capital programmes was deemed advantageous.
The successful incumbent embodied the criteria of the brief entirely. As an existing director from a London NHS Trust with capital programme experience, familiar with – and passionate about – this wonderful organisation.
