London School of Economics and Political Science – Assistant Director, Head of Group Financial Reporting and Compliance

London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is one of the foremost Social Science Universities in the world.

Their vision is to create a better world where a profound understanding of management drives positive change in business and society.

        Brief/Problem

We were tasked with recruiting an Assistant Director, Head of Group Financial Reporting and Compliance for the University in Spring 2018. Reporting to the Finance Director, the successful candidate would support and participate in wider group strategic initiatives as well as oversee the financial reporting, compliance, tax and investment activities of the group.

The candidate would be joining LSE at a particularly important time for the finance team as the university embarked on planning and implementation of a new finance system. We were looking for a candidate who would play a leading role in the design, implementation and the benefits realisation programme of this major investment.

        Approach/research

We sourced a mixed shortlist with those coming from an education background alongside candidates of a similar level sourced from complex organisations including government departments as agreed at the implementation meeting.

        Results/achievement

The appointed candidate was an experienced Deputy CFO with a background within the education sector. They are making a fantastic impact and we cannot wait to see their future success.
