        Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust provide hospital and community services for more than 526,000 people across South East London, serving two hospitals – University Hospital Lewisham and Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich.

        Brief/Problem

        Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust had encountered some personnel changes across their Executive Board and so it was imperative that they made a strong appointment in their Chief Finance Officer, particularly given the financial challenges the Trust face.  The Trust was relatively open on the background of the successful candidate, but there were key characteristics in the individual which were of particular importance and it was therefore vital that Allen Lane understood fully what was required to ensure a strong organisational fit.

        Approach/research

        The Trust had given us a broad search criteria and so we covered and engaged with our diverse candidate network across the NHS and wider public sector. Our experience of working with Ben Travis (Chief Executive) from previous organisations helped ensure both that we met his expectations and also the profile which would work best for the Trust.

        Results/achievement

        Following a successful campaign, the successful candidate was appointed from NHS Improvement, where they had gained experience as a Finance Director within the NHS.
