King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK’s largest and busiest teaching hospitals with a turnover of c£1 billion, 1.5 million patient contacts a year and more than 11,500 staff based across 5 main sites in South East London.

King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides a full range of local hospital services across its different sites, and specialist services from King’s College Hospital (KCH) sites at Denmark Hill in Camberwell and at the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) site in Bromley.

        Brief/Problem

King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation NHS Trust was delivering an ambitious financial efficiency programme for 2018/19 and beyond with the aim to achieve long-term financial sustainability. The Trust appointed a substantive CFO in July 2018 and we met him early in his tenure to get an understanding of the aspirations he had for the department. He recognised the need to support and develop current staff but also inject some new talent into the team, particularly candidates with a more commercial background.

        Approach/research

Given the volume and breadth of roles we were required to recruit, our role was to build a compelling story as what the vision of the organisation was and ensure we utilised all our candidate networks across the NHS, wider public and commercial sectors. With the newly appointed CFO, there was a real opportunity to deliver a narrative that candidates bought into.

        Results/achievement

We successfully appointed all roles with a broad mix of NHS and non sector appointments. There were some internal success stories as well so the client left what was a challenging process, feeling positive about the future of the team.
