        The Cabinet Office operates at the heart of government, supporting the Prime Minister and ensuring the effective running of government.

        As the corporate headquarters for government in partnership with HM Treasury, the Cabinet Office is responsible for leading in critical policy areas. This means that it’s work is far reaching, providing an interesting and varied workload for its dedicated staff.

        Brief/Problem

        Within the Cabinet Office, the Planning & Performance team sits within the central Finance team and is responsible for managing all aspects of the Cabinet Office’s finances. These responsibilities include business and financial planning, performance reporting, in-year financial management, financial accounting, management of Parliamentary Supply and production of the Cabinet Office’s annual accounts, as well as providing commercial support across the department.

        Allen Lane was enlisted by the Cabinet office to source for an exciting range of employment opportunities (7 different jobs, 18 positions in total) within the team involved in areas of work such as business planning, financial analysis and business partnering. We were looking for enthusiastic, self-starters who would thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.

        Approach/research

        Allen Lane scoured our own extensive network, along with advertising on diverse platforms including CS Jobs to attract a wide range of candidates.

        Our experienced consultants then conducted first round informal meetings with long listed candidates before presenting our final shortlists to the Cabinet Office for each role.

        Results/achievement

        As a result of the strength of our shortlist, the Cabinet Office appointed an additional two candidates within the wider business meaning that from 18 roles, 20 candidates accepted positions.

        Successful candidates came from a vast variety of backgrounds including existing civil servants, and candidates from both the wider public and private sectors.
