        A forward thinking Unitary authority requires a Senior Systems Accountant to support the Finance Systems Manager.

        Commercially driven and forward thinking Unitary authority in the home Counties require a Senior Systems Accountant who will support the Finance Systems Manager to lead, develop and maintain the Council’s corporate financial systems. They will develop the Council’s financial systems to provide excellent financial information in a cost effective and efficient way, negotiate between users and Information Management to maximise technology and its benefits.  Maximising the use of existing systems and software this role will create lean processes within the service area and aid all system users across the council.

        Summary of key responsibilities:

        • Maintain interfaces in the corporate financial systems, working with the Information Management department
        • Support projects relating to the various systems that are used by and developed for each of the functions within Corporate Finance and other related systems. In particular substituting for the Finance Manager (Systems) when required at project meetings
        • Support the systems processes for the preparation of estimates, including the extraction of data from various source systems, such as payroll and the general ledger
        • Provide expert financial advice through being the Council’s main expert in report writing for the systems maintained
        • Support the efficiency work plan to deliver new and improved ways of working, by maximising the use of existing systems and software
        • Support the Systems Administrator for the integrated suite of financial software and other related systems, ensuring that the integrity of the Council’s General Ledger is maintained
        • Test and implement new releases for the integrated suite of financial software and related systems

        In order to be successful in the role, we are looking for an experienced finance systems professional that has a high level of experience of using finance systems and complex spreadsheets ideally in a local authority setting.  Advanced (macro level) excel, able to use a variety of scripting and report writing tools such as Crystal and VBA are essential.  Civica system experience is desirable but not essential.  In addition, demonstrable problem solving, influencing and negotiation skills within a challenging environment are a must.
