Currently the organisation has two divisions where the financial position is materially off plan. Working closely with the Deputy Director of Finance, the objective of the Head of Finance will be to address the issues, initially by understanding the drivers of their overspend, the control environment, and the culture towards controls, then work with the divisional leadership teams to devise and deliver a sustainable recovery plan and timetable to bring them back to an in month break even position.
Crucial to the success of the post will be the provision of strong financial leadership and promotion of a positive culture towards controls and improvements.
The appropriate candidate will be a qualified and experienced finance manager with a significant background in a strong controls and governance environment. You should be able to clearly demonstrate instances of how you have made improvements to controls in the past and successfully engaged the business to achieve a mutual benefit. Ideally, you will have experience of working in an NHS environment, but a sound knowledge of the financial regime, perhaps gained in a consultancy capacity, could be a good alternative. Excellent communication and influencing skills, alongside empathy, will be essential.
